Implant-Supported Dentures for a teeth replacement permanent solution
Patients with standard dentures often become frustrated at how much maintenance is required and find them to be inconvenient, unstable, and even painful. Unlike traditional dentures, which rest on your gums, implant-supported dentures are an overdenture held in place by strategically placed implants. Implant-supported dentures provide a superior level of stability and support, eliminate the need for denture adhesives, returns your ability to eat the foods you used to enjoy, and restores your bright, full smile. Implant-supported dentures are often recommended for patients missing all their teeth, but who still have enough jawbone to support an implant. If you do not have enough jawbone to support an implant-supported denture, it may be necessary to have a bone graft procedure prior to placement of the dental implant. Implant-supported dentures can either be fixed or removable.

Steps Involved in Implant-Supported Dentures
Before we can place implant-supported dentures, it will be necessary to address any preexisting decay and periodontal disease. It may also be necessary to perform a dental bone graft if the jaw has begun to decay and can no longer support the implants. If these issues have been addressed, the procedure will begin with a 3D cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) scan, which will provide us with 3D images of your bone, nerve pathways, soft tissues, and teeth, which allows us to determine the optimal placement of your implants using the best digital assessment software and related state-of-the-art technology to ensure that your treatment is truly customized. Most service providers, especially corporate-based, treat everyone the same way with the one-size-fits-all mentality. You are as unique as your fingerprint and as a result, we draw from a variety of digital-based, precision solutions to give you a beautiful natural smile and restore your ability to eat and chew foods that you love. Our unique approach not only includes a comprehensive treatment plan for each of our patients, but also a thorough explanation and as importantly ongoing follow-up care.
Prior to placing the implant, a local anesthetic is administered along with dental sedation. Once you are sufficiently numbed, our dental implant surgeon will surgically place the titanium implant or implants into your jawbone. Once the post is properly placed, it will take several months for your jawbone to fuse around the posts through a process called osseointegration. Once the osseointegration process is complete and the posts are sufficiently fused, we will attach the denture, which has been designed to restore the aesthetic appearance and functionality of your natural bite.

Aftercare for Implant-Supported Dentures
Following placement of implant-supported dentures, post-procedural pain, swelling, and complications can be minimized or avoided if the following instructions are closely followed.
- Avoid disturbing the surgical area.
- Post-procedural pain typically develops once the anesthetic wears off. Once you begin to feel discomfort or pain, take Over the Counter (OTC) or prescription medication as directed.
- Place ice packs on the area where surgery occurred for twenty minutes at a time to control swelling.
- You may experience tooth sensitivity to cold/hot temperatures, but this should go away as the healing process progresses.
- Follow a soft food diet for at least two weeks following placement of your implant - supported dentures or longer if indicated in your aftercare instructions. As the healing progresses, you can begin to slowly reintroduce harder foods.
- Avoid tobacco products and alcohol, as both can slow the healing process.
- Avoid spitting, rinsing, or using a straw for the first 24 hours minimum.
- If possible, limit intense physical activity for the first three days, but most importantly following surgery.
Once the healing process is complete, it is important to perform regular maintenance if you have a removable implant-supported denture. Remove and clean the denture and around the attachments nightly. It will also be necessary to replace the attachment of the bar-retained denture every 6-12 months. In addition to following these aftercare instructions, we strongly encourage our clients to follow a six-month ongoing maintenance program, which includes regular professional cleanings of your teeth and allows us to monitor your implant-supported dentures and overall oral health. By closely following aftercare instructions, scheduling regular maintenance, and continuing to follow good daily oral hygiene habits, you should enjoy a fast recovery that is free of complications, and continue to enjoy a bright, healthy smile.
