Patients with traditional dentures often become frustrated at how much maintenance is necessary and find them to become inconvenient, unstable, and even sometimes painful. Unlike these traditional dentures, which just rest on your gums, implant-supported dentures palm harbor fl are an overdenture held securely in place by strategically placed implants. Implant-supported dentures provide you with a superior level of stability and support and eliminate the need for denture adhesives. They also return your ability to eat the foods you used to enjoy, and they restore your bright, full smile. Implant-supported dentures are often recommended for patients when they are missing all their teeth, but who still have enough jawbone to support an implant. If you do not have enough jawbone to support the implant, it will be necessary to have a bone graft procedure prior to the placement of the dental implant. Implant-supported dentures are designed to be either removable or permanent.

At Coastal Jaw Surgery, each and every patient who walks through our door will receive VIP Treatment delivered by dedicated professionals who are the best in their fields and are ready to provide you with personalized care using the most cutting-edge dental technology available today. STEPS INVOLVED IN IMPLANT-SUPPORTED DENTURES PALM HARBOR FL

Our office offers several treatment options for dental implants, including traditional dental implants, All-on-4, All-on-6, implant-supported dentures, implant-retained dentures, zygomatic implants, subperiosteal implants and Same Day Teeth®. We are happy to provide a free consultation to determine which implant treatment option is right for you.

Once the appropriate dental implant has been determined, it will be necessary to address any preexisting decay and periodontal disease. It may also be necessary to perform a dental bone graft or sinus lift if there is not enough bone to support the implant. Once these issues have been addressed, the dental implant process will begin with a 3D cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) scan, which will provide us with 3D images of your bone, nerve pathways, soft tissues, and teeth, and allows us to determine optimal placement of your implant using the best digital assessment software and related state-of-the-art technology to ensure that your treatment is truly customized. Most service providers, especially corporate-based, treat everyone the same way with the one-size-fits-all mentality. You are as unique as your fingerprint and as a result, we draw from a variety of digital-based, precision solutions to give you a beautiful natural smile and restore your ability to eat and chew foods that you love. Our unique approach not only includes a comprehensive treatment plan for each of our patients, but also a thorough explanation and as importantly ongoing follow-up care.’

Prior to placing the implant, a local anesthetic is administered along with dental sedation. Once you are sufficiently numbed, our dental implant surgeon will surgically place the titanium implant or implants into your jawbone. Once the dental implant post is properly placed, it will take several months for your jawbone to fuse around the posts through a process called osseointegration, unless you are having Same Day Teeth®, in which case the implants and new teeth will be placed on the same day. Once the osseointegration process is complete and the posts are sufficiently fused, we will place the abutment on top of your gumline and then attach the crown, which has been designed in our labs to create a seamlessly integrated smile that restores the aesthetic appearance and functionality of your natural bite.

AFTERCARE FOR IMPLANT-SUPPORTED DENTURES

Following the placement of implant-supported dentures; swelling, post-procedural pain, and complications can be minimized or avoided if the following instructions are closely followed.

  • Post-procedural pain typically develops once the anesthetic wears off. Once you begin to feel discomfort or pain, take Over the Counter (OTC) or prescription medication as directed.
  • Avoid disturbing the surgical area.
  • Place ice packs on the area where surgery occurred for twenty minutes at a time to control swelling.
  • Follow a soft food diet for at least two weeks following placement of your implant - supported dentures or longer if indicated in your aftercare instructions. As the healing progresses, you can begin to slowly reintroduce harder foods.
  • You may experience tooth sensitivity to cold/hot temperatures, but this should go away as the healing process progresses.
  • Avoid tobacco products and alcohol, as both can slow the healing process.
  • Avoid spitting, rinsing, or using a straw for the first 24 hours minimum.
  • If possible, limit intense physical activity for the first three days, but most importantly following surgery.

Once the healing process is complete, it is always important to perform regular maintenance if you have a removable implant-supported denture. Every night remove and clean the denture and around the attachments. It is necessary to replace the attachment of the bar-retained denture every 6-12 months. In addition to following these aftercare instructions, we strongly fell you should follow a six-month ongoing maintenance program, which includes regular professional cleanings of your teeth and allows us to monitor your implant-supported dentures, the wear on those nylon snaps,  and your overall oral health. By closely following these simple aftercare instructions, scheduling consistent preventative maintenance, and continuing to follow good daily oral hygiene habits, you will enjoy a fast recovery that is free of any complications, and therefore continue to enjoy a healthy smile.
