FULL MOUTH DENTAL IMPLANTS PROVIDE A SUPERIOR LEVEL OF STABILITY AND SUPPORT

Traditional dentures can require ongoing maintenance and may sometimes feel unstable or uncomfortable. Full mouth dental implants offer a more secure alternative by using dental implants to support a complete set of replacement teeth. This added stability can improve comfort and chewing function, eliminate the need for denture adhesives in many cases, and restore the appearance of a full smile.

Full mouth dental implants may be recommended for patients who are missing most or all of their teeth. The amount and quality of available jawbone are important factors in determining the appropriate treatment approach. If additional bone support is needed, bone grafting may be recommended before or as part of implant treatment.

At Coastal Jaw Surgery, we offer several full mouth implant options, including multiple implants, All-on-4, All-on-6, implant-supported dentures, and Same Day Teeth®. During your consultation, our team will evaluate your needs and help determine which option is best suited to your oral health, goals, and anatomy.

For more than three decades, Coastal Jaw Surgery has provided patients throughout the Tampa Bay area with dental implant, oral surgery, Same Day Teeth®, and periodontal services. To schedule a consultation and learn whether full mouth dental implants may be right for you, call (866) 798-5659.

TYPES OF FULL MOUTH IMPLANTS

Our office offers several treatment options for providing patients with full mouth dental implants, including:

  • Same Day Teeth®: Same Day Teeth® is an innovative surgical procedure that allows placement of your implants and new teeth to occur on the same day. This bar-supported, immediate-load, full-arch restoration is milled from polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) using computer images and impressions of your bite and designed to color-match your remaining natural teeth, resulting in a seamlessly integrated smile and a return to the desired aesthetic and functionality of your natural bite, all in one visit.
  • All-on-4/All-on-6:Entire arches can now be replaced using as few as four or six dental implants that are strategically placed at an angle at the back of your jaw and around your dental arch. Once in place, a denture or bridge is attached, restoring the full function and appearance of a full arch of teeth.
  • Implant-Supported/Retained Dentures: Implant supported dentures provide a superior level of stability and support, eliminate the need for denture adhesives, restore your bright, full smile, and return your ability to eat the foods you used to enjoy. Implant-supported dentures are often recommended for patients missing all their teeth but who still have enough jawbone to support an implant.

STEPS INVOLVED IN FULL MOUTH DENTAL IMPLANTS

Before we can place full mouth dental implants, it will be necessary to address any preexisting decay and periodontal disease. It may also be necessary to perform a dental bone graft if the jaw has begun to decay and can no longer support the implants. If these issues have been addressed, the full mouth dental implant process will begin with a 3D cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) scan, which will provide us with 3D images of your bone, nerve pathways, soft tissues, and teeth, which allows us to determine the optimal placement of your implants using the best digital assessment software and related state-of-the-art technology to ensure that your treatment is truly customized. Most service providers, especially corporate-based ones, treat everyone the same way with a one-size-fits-all mentality. You are as unique as your fingerprint, and as a result, we draw from a variety of digital-based, precision solutions to give you a beautiful natural smile and restore your ability to eat and chew foods that you love. Our unique approach not only includes a comprehensive treatment plan for each of our patients, but also a thorough explanation and, as importantly, ongoing follow-up care.

Prior to placing the implant, a local anesthetic is administered along with dental sedation (if necessary). Once you are sufficiently numbed, our dental implant surgeon will surgically place the titanium implant or implants into your jawbone. Once the post is properly placed, it will take several months for your jawbone to fuse around the posts through a process called osseointegration, unless you are having Same Day Teeth®, in which case the implants and new teeth will be placed on the same day. Once the osseointegration process is complete and the posts are sufficiently fused, we will place the abutment on top of your gumline and then place the crown, which has been designed in our labs to create a seamlessly integrated smile that restores the aesthetic appearance and functionality of your natural bite.

AFTERCARE FOR FULL MOUTH DENTAL IMPLANTS

Following full mouth dental implant placement, post-procedural pain, swelling, and complications can be minimized or avoided if the following instructions are closely followed.

  • Avoid disturbing the surgical area
  • Post-procedural pain typically develops once the anesthetic wears off. Once you begin to feel discomfort or pain, take OTC or prescription medication as directed.
  • Place ice packs on the area where surgery occurred for twenty minutes at a time to control swelling.
  • You may experience tooth sensitivity to cold/hot temperatures, but this should go away as the healing process progresses.
  • Follow a soft food diet for at least two weeks or longer if directed as part of your aftercare instructions. As the healing process progresses, you can slowly begin to reintroduce harder foods.
  • Avoid tobacco products and alcohol, as both can slow the healing process
  • Avoid spitting, rinsing, or using a straw for the first 24 hours minimum.
  • If possible, limit intense physical activity for the first three days, but most importantly following surgery.

In addition to following these aftercare instructions, we strongly encourage our clients to follow a six-month ongoing maintenance program, which includes regular professional cleanings of your teeth and allows us to monitor your full mouth dental implants and overall oral health. By closely following aftercare instructions, scheduling regular maintenance, and continuing to follow good daily oral hygiene habits, you should enjoy a fast recovery that is free of complications and continue to enjoy a bright, healthy smile.

COST OF FULL MOUTH DENTAL IMPLANTS

The cost of full mouth dental implants will depend on a variety of factors, including whether additional procedures are performed as part of your treatment plan, what type of dental sedation is used, and (if applicable) your dental insurance plan coverage.
