Dental implants are an ideal option for missing teeth replacement
Dental implants are designed to replace missing teeth by using artificial tooth roots placed in the jawbone to support natural-looking replacement teeth. Implants can restore the appearance of your smile, improve your ability to chew, and help maintain your oral health by providing a stable and long-term solution for tooth loss.
At Coastal Jaw Surgery, we provide personalized care using advanced dental technology and techniques. For more than four decades, our team has proudly served thousands of patients throughout the Tampa Bay area with dental implant, oral surgery, Same Day Teeth®, and periodontal services. Our goal is to provide every patient with comprehensive care throughout their entire treatment experience.

Steps Involved in the Dental Implant Process
Our office offers several treatment options for dental implants, including traditional dental implants, All-on-4, All-on-6, implant-supported dentures, implant-retained dentures, zygomatic implants, subperiosteal implants, and Same Day Teeth®. We are happy to provide a consultation to determine which implant treatment option is right for you.
Once the appropriate dental implant has been determined, it will be necessary to address any preexisting decay and periodontal disease. It may also be necessary to perform a dental bone graft or sinus lift if there is not enough bone to support the implant. Once these issues have been addressed, the dental implant process will begin with a 3D cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) scan, which will provide us with 3D images of your bone, nerve pathways, soft tissues, and teeth, and allows us to determine optimal placement of your implant using the best digital assessment software and related state-of-the-art technology to ensure that your treatment is truly customized. Most service providers, especially corporate-based ones, treat everyone the same way with a one-size-fits-all mentality. You are as unique as your fingerprint, and as a result, we draw from a variety of digital-based, precision solutions to give you a beautiful natural smile and restore your ability to eat and chew foods that you love. Our unique approach not only includes a comprehensive treatment plan for each of our patients, but also a thorough explanation and, as importantly, ongoing follow-up care.
Prior to placing the implant, a local anesthetic is administered along with dental sedation. Once you are sufficiently numbed, our dental implant surgeon will surgically place the titanium implant or implants into your jawbone. Once the dental implant post is properly placed, it will take several months for your jawbone to fuse around the posts through a process called osseointegration, unless you are having Same Day Teeth®, in which case the implants and new teeth will be placed on the same day. Once the osseointegration process is complete and the posts are sufficiently fused, we will place the abutment on top of your gumline and then attach the crown, which has been designed in our labs to create a seamlessly integrated smile that restores the aesthetic appearance and functionality of your natural bite.
Aftercare Instructions for Dental Implants
Following dental implant placement, post-procedural pain, swelling, and complications can be minimized or avoided if the following instructions are closely followed.
- Avoid disturbing the surgical area
- Post-procedural pain typically develops once the anesthetic wears off. Once you begin to feel discomfort or pain, take over-the-counter (OTC) or prescription medication as directed.
- Place ice packs on the area where surgery occurred for twenty minutes at a time to control swelling.
- You may experience tooth sensitivity to cold/hot temperatures, but this should go away as the healing process progresses.
- Follow a soft food diet for approximately two weeks. As the healing progresses, you can begin to slowly reintroduce harder foods.
- Avoid tobacco products and alcohol, as both can slow the healing process
- Avoid spitting, rinsing, or using a straw for the first 24 hours minimum.
- If possible, limit intense physical activity for the first three days, but most importantly following surgery.
In addition to following these aftercare instructions, we strongly encourage our patients to follow a six-month ongoing maintenance program, which includes regular professional cleanings of your teeth and allows us to monitor your dental implant and overall oral health. By closely following aftercare instructions, scheduling regular maintenance, and continuing to follow good daily oral hygiene habits, you should enjoy a fast recovery that is free of complications and continue to enjoy a bright, healthy smile.

Cost of Dental Implants
The cost of dental implants will depend on a variety of factors, including what type and how many implants are being placed, whether additional procedures are performed, what type of dental sedation is used, and (if applicable) your dental insurance plan coverage. At Coastal Jaw Surgery, we are committed to providing you with high-quality oral care in a manner that is simple and efficient. To help meet your unique budget and needs, we offer the following financing options:
- Carecredit® Healthcare Financing (interest-free financing for dental care)
- GreenSky® Patient Financing
- Lending Club Patient Financing
We also accept traditional insurance, and as a courtesy to you, we are happy to file and track your insurance claim and assist with insurance family plans. To help facilitate this process, please have your insurance information prepared at your appointment, including your insurance and identification card. To help you maximize your benefits, we are also happy to provide a written diagnostic report and X-rays to your insurance company if necessary.
Please note: Dental insurance only covers part of your total expenses; any remaining out-of-pocket expenses must be paid following service. We accept cash, debit cards, and most major credit cards (MasterCard, VISA, Discover, American Express).
