DENTAL IMPLANTS PALM HARBOR are an ideal option for missing teeth replacement

Dental implants are like artificial tooth roots that are surgically placed in your jaw to support a replacement tooth. This replacement artificial tooth is then designed to look and feel like your natural tooth, restore the aesthetic appearance of your smile, provide optimal functionality, and reduce the risk of developing other oral health issues. Following the placement of the titanium post, the artificial root,  in your jawbone, our qualified technicians will design a custom-made crown that is milled from polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) using computer images and impressions made of your bite and designed to color-match the balance of your neighboring natural teeth. The results are the return of a healthy smile and the functionality of your natural bite.

At Coastal Jaw Surgery, when you walk through our door you will receive VIP Treatment delivered by our dedicated professionals who are leaders in their fields.  We are ready to provide you with personalized care using the most cutting-edge dental technology available. We have proudly provided successful care to over thousands of patients for over three decades with dental implant and oral surgery services, including oral surgery, Same Day Teeth®, and periodontal services.

THE DENTAL IMPLANT PROCESS

Our office offers several treatment options for dental implants. These include traditional dental implants, All-on-4, All-on-6, implant-supported dentures, implant-retained dentures, zygomatic implants, subperiosteal implants and Same Day Teeth®. We are more than happy to provide a free consultation to determine which implant treatment option is right for you.

Once we have determined which option is appropriate, it will be necessary to first address any preexisting decay and periodontal disease. On an occasion it may also be necessary to perform a dental bone graft or sinus lift if there is not enough bone to support the implant. Once these issues have been addressed and corrected, the dental implant process will begin with a 3D cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) scan. This provides us with 3D images of your bone, nerve pathways, soft tissues, and teeth, and allows us to choose the optimal placement of your implant using the best digital assessment software and related state-of-the-art technology. This ensures that your treatment is truly customized for your situation. Many service providers, especially corporate-based, tend to treat everyone the same way with the one-size-fits-all mentality. Your teeth and gums are as unique as your fingerprints. We draw from a variety of digitally based, precision solutions to give you a beautiful natural smile and restore your ability to eat the that you love. Our unique approach not only includes a comprehensive treatment plan for each of our unique patients, but it also includes a thorough explanation and thorough ongoing follow-up care.

Prior to placing the implant, a local anesthetic is administered. Sometimes an additional sedition might be necessary. Once your soft tissue is numb, our dental implant surgeon will surgically place the titanium implant or implants into your jawbone. After the dental implant post is properly placed, it will take several months for your jawbone to fuse or grow around the posts through a process called osseointegration. The exception is if you are having Same Day Teeth®, in which case the implants and new teeth will be placed on the same day. Once this process is complete and the posts are sufficiently fused, we will add the abutment to the post to reach your gumline and then affix the crown, which has been designed in our labs to simulate your natural bite and smile.

Aftercare Instructions for Dental Implants

Following the dental implant procedure, post-procedural pain, swelling, and complications can be minimized or avoided if the following instructions are closely followed.

  • Avoid disturbing the surgical area Place ice packs on the area where surgery occurred for twenty minutes at a time to control swelling.
  • Place ice packs on the area where surgery occurred for twenty minutes at a time to control swelling.
  • Post-procedural pain typically develops once the anesthetic wears off. Once you begin to feel discomfort or pain, take Over the Counter (OTC) or prescription medication as directed.
  • You may experience tooth sensitivity to cold/hot temperatures, but this should go away as the healing process progresses.
  • Follow a soft food diet for approximately two weeks. As the healing progresses, you can begin to slowly reintroduce harder foods. Avoid spitting, rinsing, or using a straw for the first 24 hours minimum.
  • Avoid spitting, rinsing, or using a straw for the first 24 hours minimum.
  • Avoid tobacco products and alcohol, as both can slow the healing process
  • If possible, limit intense physical activity for the first three days, but most importantly following surgery.

In addition to these basic aftercare instructions, we also encourage our patients to follow a six-month ongoing maintenance program. This includes regular professional cleanings of your teeth and allows us to monitor your dental implant and overall oral health. By following these aftercare instructions, scheduling regular maintenance, and continuing to follow your good daily oral hygiene habits, you should enjoy a fast recovery that is free of complications, and continue to enjoy a bright and healthy smile again.
