Quite a few patients with traditional dentures will become more and more frustrated at how much maintenance is necessary and then find them to become inconvenient, unstable, and even sometimes quite uncomfortable. Unlike these traditional and standard dentures, which just sit on your gums, implant-supported dentures tampa fl are an overdenture which are held firmly and securely in their place by strategically placed implanted posts. Implant-supported dentures provide you with an extremely high level of support and stability and totally eliminate the need for denture adhesives. They also give back to you your ability to eat the foods you once enjoyed, and they will restore your natural and healthy smile. Implant-supported dentures are consistently recommended now for patients when they are missing all their teeth, but who still have enough jawbone density to support the implant post. If it is found that you do not have enough bone to support the implant, it will then be necessary to have a bone graft procedure prior to the actual placement of the dental implant. The implant-supported dentures are designed to be either removable or permanent depending on your particular situation.

At Coastal Jaw Surgery, when you walk through our front door you will receive VIP Treatment delivered by a team of dedicated professionals who are the best in their fields. They are ready to provide you with personalized care using the most advanced dental technology available today. STEPS INVOLVED IN IMPLANT-SUPPORTED DENTURES TAMPA FL

Before we begin, the very first step is to address any preexisting decay and periodontal disease. We may find it necessary to extract a tooth or perform a dental bone graft if the jaw has begun to atrophy and lacks the proper density to support the implants. After these initial issues have been addressed, we then proceed with a 3D cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) scan. This state-of-the art technology provides our team with 3D images of your bone, soft tissues, nerve pathways, and teeth. These images will allow us to determine the perfect placement of your implants using the combination of the best digital assessment software and related technology to ensure that your treatment is totally customized and unique for you and only you. Many dental providers today, especially those that are corporate-based, try to treat everyone the same way with the one-size-fits-all mentality. Your teeth, gums and smile are as unique and different as your fingerprints. As a result, we draw from a variety of digital-based, precision solutions that will bring back your beautiful natural smile and restore your ability to eat those foods that you enjoy.  Our unique and deliberate approach not only includes a very comprehensive treatment plan just for you, but we also will give you a thorough and detailed explanation and then continue to monitor your ongoing follow-up care through the entire process, start to finish.

Prior to beginning to place the implant, a local anesthetic will be administered to numb your gums. A dental sedation will be added if it is deemed necessary. Once your gums have become adequately numbed, our dental implant surgeon will perform an important minor surgical procedure and strategically place the titanium implant or implants into your jawbone. After the titanium post or posts are appropriately placed, it will now take two to three months for your jawbone to grow around the posts through a process called osseointegration. Once this osseointegration process is successfully completed and the posts have fused into your jawbone, we will then add extensions to the posts to reach the surface. Then your final, permanent denture, which has been designed to restore both the desired aesthetic appearance and functionality of your natural bite, will be placed. There are small nylon snaps added into the backside of each denture tray that match perfectly with the positioning of the posts. These snaps lock on to the post extensions which will deliver the stability of the implant support, just like a natural root.

There are several major benefits. Not only do the implant supported dentures offer the stability and strength, but the posts act as roots. The posts will stop the jawbone from atrophying further, they will deliver pressure sensations as you bite and chew, and they will also deliver temperature changes between hot and cold. The implant supported dentures are the next best thing to having your real natural teeth.

AFTERCARE FOR IMPLANT-SUPPORTED DENTURES

Following the placement of your implant-supported dentures; complications, swelling, and post-procedural pain can be avoided or minimized if the following instructions are closely followed.

  • Avoid disturbing the surgical area whatsoever.
  • To control any swelling, place ice packs on the area where surgery occurred for twenty minutes at a time.
  • Post-procedural pain usually develops once the anesthetic wears off. Once you begin to feel any discomfort or pain, take Over the Counter (OTC) or prescription medication as directed.
  • Follow a soft food diet for at least two weeks after the placement of your implant-supported dentures or longer if indicated in your aftercare instructions. As the healing continues, you can begin to slowly reintroduce harder foods.
  • You may experience tooth sensitivity to cold/hot temperatures, but this will go away as the healing process progresses.
  • Do your best to limit intense physical activity for the first three days, but most importantly following surgery.
  • Avoid the spitting, rinsing, or using of a straw for the first 24 hours minimum.
  • Avoid any tobacco products and alcohol, as both can slow the healing process

Once your healing process is completed, it will be important to perform simple regular maintenance if you have a removable implant-supported denture. Every evening remove the denture tray and clean the denture and around any attachments. We might find it necessary to replace the attachment of the bar-retained denture every 6-12 months. In addition to following these suggested aftercare instructions, we will encourage you to follow a six-month ongoing maintenance program. This always includes regular professional cleanings of your teeth and allows us to monitor your implant-supported dentures, as well as any wear on those nylon snaps, and your overall oral health. By closely following our simple aftercare instructions, scheduling this consistent and preventative six month maintenance, and continuing to follow your good oral hygiene habits, you will enjoy a rewarding recovery that is free of any complications, and you will continue to enjoy that undervalued asset of a healthy smile for some time to come.

COST OF IMPLANT-SUPPORTED DENTURES

The final cost of implant-supported dentures will vary based on a bevy of contributing factors.  Some examples are whether there are additional procedures such as tooth extractions or bone grafting  as part of your treatment plan, what type of dental sedation might possibly be added if necessary, the number of appointments necessary, and (if applicable) your dental insurance plan coverage. At Coastal Jaw Surgery, we are always dedicated and committed to providing you with high-quality oral care in a manner that is both efficient but simple. To help meet your unique needs and your budget, we have had patients successfully use the following financing options:

  • Carecredit® Healthcare Financing (interest free financing for dental care)
  • GreenSky® Patient Financing
  • Lending Club Patient Financing

We will also accept any and all traditional insurance, and as an additional service to you, we are happy to file and navigate your insurance claim and even assist with insurance family plans. To help us facilitate these extra steps, please have your insurance information ready at your appointment, including your insurance and any identification cards. To help you maximize all benefits offered, we often provide written diagnostic reports and X-rays to your insurance company if deemed necessary.

Please note: Most dental insurance will not cover your total expenses; any remaining out-of-pocket expenses must be paid following the completion of the service. We do accept cash, debit cards, and most major credit cards (MasterCard, VISA, Discover, American Express).
