Denture Stabilization

Denture Stabilization

We all know that trope of the cup of water on the nightstand with “Grandma’s Dentures” sitting in it. It was funny in looney tunes, but what if they were your dentures, and you needed them to eat the foods you love and smile for pictures? Many people would feel a little self conscious about capturing a precious moment with friends of loved ones with an empty mouth, even though there is nothing wrong with it. There are options to help give you a smile you can love, and love the foods that you eat again. Even better, you can do it without the cup of water, the polident, or dentures that fall out of your mouth when your laughing with friends.

Adhesive free Dentures

Dentures can now be fitted and secured in your mouth using Anchors, the same way Dental Implants are. In order to do this, your dentist will check on the development of your jaw and skeleton, your overall health, and medical history. Then they can insert an anchor into your jaw, let it heal and integrate into your jaw, and then anchor a permanent set of dentures in. This will alleviate the insecurity of chewing through crunchy peanuts or biting into an apple, and allow you the freedom and feel of your natural teeth. All without any lingering bad taste like a denture adhesive paste, or jaw pain from wobbly dentures.

Missing teeth

We all have Dental Problems. It is easy to overlook small problems like cavities, and then continue ignoring those problems as they get out of hands, like missing teeth. Missing teeth should never be ignored, make appointments with your dentist and follow up. Leaving gaps in your teeth can cause a slew of problems down the line.

Problems like

  • Lower Self Confidence- We all know the feeling, and it sucks! Do not let a simple problem stop you from finding a simple solution. It is okay to have dental decay, and it is okay to accept the problem and fix it. Feeling bad about yourself is the one thing you simply cannot do.
  • Pain or Difficulty Chewing, Smiling, or Speaking- Missing teeth can cause problems with the ergonomics of chewing. It can put undue pressure on different parts of your mouth, which can lead to damage for other teeth. You may have problems eating, either with chewing or with food falling out of your mouth. You may need to “eat louder” to compensate for the difficulties you have eating. You may opt to smile without your teeth, or not smile. This has been proven to make you feel worse. When you feel like smiling, you should be able to do it.
  • Facial Problems- Leaving gaps in your teeth can weaken and impair your jaw and facial structure, which can make it more difficult to anchor implant or overdentures later. This is why it is important to be proactive and schedule a Dentist appointment about your teeth quickly.

What is Denture Stabilization?

Denture stabilization is the act of Anchoring Dentures using techniques from Dental Implants. Dentures are a common option when multiple teeth need to be replaced, but many refuse to use them because of the discomfort of dentures. Dentures can move around in the mouth, they can fall out, and adhesive paste can leave a bad taste in your mouth. Denture Stabilization is the answer many patients have been seeking, and it can help you too.

Benefits

  1. Allows Patients to chew foods comfortably and securely.
  2. Allows patient to talk without concern or doubt about their appearance, or their denture placement.
  3. Are permanent and placed by a Dentist (also must be removed by a Dentist.
  4. Can be easily maintained and cleaned using proper dental hygiene, regular checkups , an cleanings. Just like your original teeth!

Ball-Retained Dentures- Also called “Ball and Socket” Dentures or “Stud Attachment Dentures” In these type of implants, the Anchor has a small attachment, called an abutment. The abutment attaches to the Anchor, and it also attaches to the implant; in this case Stabilized Dentures. For Ball-retained dentures the Abutment is ball shaped, and the Dentures attach with a socket shape. This allows the dentures the same security that a strong hip or shoulder joint have, but without th movement.

Bar-Retained Dentures- In Bar retained Dentures, more implants are anchored. Although this may cost more, and may be more painful initially, the process leads to secure dentures. Anywhere from 2 to 5 dental anchors are placed, and then a bar is attached to each of these anchors; Imagine a set of braces with only five attaching points. Now, once te anchors are set and the bar attachments are secure, the Dentures can be affixed to the bar to create a flush and sturdy connection.

How much will it cost?

That is completely dependent on your needs as a patient, the materials you will require, the coverage your insurance offers, and your Dental Team. However, now you are in the know, and you know what to ask. Consult with your Dentist, your Implant Team, and your insurance advocate. You are a consumer and your business matters, use your prowess and ask for what you want. Many opt for dentures because the price of single implants adds up quick. This option will give you security, and greater quality of life. These are the things which money simply cannot buy.

What is your next step?

Begin by following a fastidious and attentive dental hygiene routine. Make sure your teeth and gums are clean, free of infection, and maintained. Having a clean mouth and a positive record of dental hygiene will assist you tenfold as you progress in the process. Next make an appointment with your Dentist and see what options they advise in order to give you your smile back. Ask about the health and maturity of your gums and jaw, ask for x rays to determine whether implants are a safe and realistic option for your mouth. Consult with your insurance about what options are available to based on your coverage. If you find the coverage inept, shop around, the world of private insurance is broad and accommodating. Overall, do what you think is right for you. There is no wrong choice.
